Buxar, December 31: Five prisoners out of which four were serving life imprisonment and one facing death penalty on Friday late night succeeded to escape from Central Jail, Bihar. The escaped prisoners are rajit Singh hailing from Motihari, Girdhari Rai of Chapra, Sonu Pandey and Upendra Sah of Ara and Sonu Singh of Brahampur, Buxar.
Like to tell you that this jailbreak came into light as the officials of prison found them missing while counting all inmates present. An alert has been issued quickly by Bihar government and the search operation is underway to locate the absconding prisoners but no progress has been reported.

The prisoners escaped were undergoing treatment in the jail’s hospital ward, where they broke the window of the bathroom and escaped. They are believed to have feigned illness.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Raman Kumar said the jailbreak took place between midnight and 3 am on Saturday. He also said that after probing the incident, responsibility would be fixed on the erring jail officials for the jail break. “Iron road, pipe and 'dhoti' have been found at the spot from where the prisoners scaled the wall,” he said.

On the other side, the jail superintendent admitted that security has been breached and said thick fog must have helped them in escaping.

Interestingly, the incident took place two days after the Buxar district administration conducted a search and recovered objectionable items. Buxar’s central jail is infamous for alleged discrepancies and infighting between inmates.

Notably, this is the third major incident of escape from a central jail in 2016. In October, eight SIMI activists escaped from the Bhopal central jail who later gunned down in an encounter by state police and Khalistan Liberation Front terrorist Harminder Singh escaped from a Punjab jail who was later arrested by Delhi police.
