CAG to investigate Sahara and Birla’s diary; contains details of Pay-off

New Delhi, December 31: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to investigate against Sahara and Birla’s diaries which contains the details of pay-offs to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. Earlier before Congress Vice President has accused PM Modi of taking bribes when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Notably, the said diaries of Sahara also contain references to several BJP and non-BJP politicians, including former Delhi CM and Congress politician Sheila Dixit. Therefore, the federal auditor recently asked the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to share all data on I-T searches and also dispatched a team to coordinate with the I-T's audit department in Mumbai to gather details on the assessment made on the two significant searches.

On the other side, CAG have sought search details on the two industrial groups but refused to give further details on the matter. The audit is like to complete the findings within three months that is by next March.CAG has also started investigating all the documents which were seized by Income tax department from Sahara and Birla within these four years.

The CAG in its performance review of the direct tax department is looking at the outcomes of various raids conducted by I-T investigation units across the country, the nature of disclosures made during the raids and if serious allegations of corruptions have been taken to logical conclusions.

Notably, advocate Prashant Bhushan, has moved the petition on behalf of NGO Common Cause, has also placed on record to the apex court copies of documents seized by the I-T department during the raids on the two groups. But claiming to the authenticity of the documents Supreme Court has given some time to petitioner to file legal evidences etc and on this matter next hearing will be on 11th January 2017. Till than the court has not given any orders of investigation.

On the other side, Vice President Rahul Gandhi trying to gain political advantage has already questioned PM Modi on Sahara and Birla diaries. He made the allegations that Prime Minister Modi had taken bribes to provide them profits etc.
