New Delhi, October 16: Union Minister for Tourism, Alphons Kannanthanam stated that Digital India has the potential to add 30% to India's GDP by 2025. Inaugurating ASSOCHAM's 13th National Summit, the minister said that several flagship projects under the program are now in execution phase.

KJ Alphons said that the Digital India program has the potential to increase India's GDP by 20 to 30% by 2025 since significant progress has already been made in certain projects since the program's inception in July, 2015.

He added that projects like cloud storage service, DigiLocker, and MyGov app, have already begun to show an impact on the lives of citizens and on businesses. "IT never reached ordinary people, Digital India is the biggest revolution happening in world," the minister said.

“Digital India is an umbrella programme that covers multiple government ministries and departments. It weaves together a large number of ideas and thoughts into a single, comprehensive vision so that each of them can be implemented as part of a larger goal.”

Our government has laid unprecedented emphasis on innovation and technology. The three flagship programs namely Digital India, Skill India and Start-up India are all focused on it, noted Alphons.

With over 300 million broadband subscribers in India and over 1186 million wireless telephone connections, India is fast moving up the ladder of digitisation.
