External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced a reward of one lakh Rupees for helping deaf and mute Indian girl Geeta in uniting with her parents. “I announce that whoever helps us in finding Geeta’s parents will be given Rs 1 lakh as a reward,” Swaraj said.
In a video appeal, Swaraj urged pople to come forward and help in finding Geeta's parents. The Minister said that Geeta could be from Bihar or Jharkhand and requested chief ministers of both the states to ensure that her appeal is shown by all cable TV networks for the next seven days so that people come forward to help her. Geeta now lives in a Home with an NGO for deaf and dumb at Indore.
Geeta was brought back from Pakistan where she had been living with the Edhi Foundation after straying across the border. She was reportedly just 7 or 8 years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express by the Pakistan Rangers at the Lahore railway station.
