Haryana SIT files charge sheet against Honeypreet and 14 others in connection with Panchkula violence

Chandigarh, November 29: When former Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape cases, Haryana’s Panchkula city and Sisra broke out in violence. In connection with that case, Haryana police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against Honeypreet Insan and 14 others. The violence was so massive that it left 41 people dead and over 250 people injured.


Along with Honeypreet 11 others have been charged with sedition, criminal conspiracy, besides other offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Remaining 3 have been charged with under Section 216 of the IPC for giving shelter to Honeypreet who was absconding.

SIT headed by ACP, Panchkula, Mukesh Malhotra, before the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Panchkula filed the 1200 page charge sheet. Priyanka Taneja i.e, Honeypreet was arrested by the Haryana police on October 4 from Zirakpur-Patiala highway.after remaining in hiding for 38 days. She is currently in judicial remand in the Ambala central jail.

Till now 173 FIRs with nearly 1,000 Dera followers have been registered. They are accused of attacking security forces and damaging public property.
