Kerala to avail free medical treatment to accident victims for first 48 hours

Thiruvananthapuram, November 3: Giving a big relief for the accident victims, the Kerala govt has decided to avail free medical treatment to accident victims for first 48 hours. The state govt has decided to give free treatments to the road accident victims for first 48 hours under the New Trauma Care Scheme. This decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday.

 

"An insurance backed scheme for providing free treatment and care for the admitted during the first 48 hours is under consideration." tweeted Chief minister Vijayan on Fridyay. He also asked that no hospital can deny treatment to the accident victims on the financial grounds.

 

As a part of this programme, advanced trauma care facilities would be launched in the government medical colleges, district and taluka hospitals and well-equipped private hospitals.

 

To provide immediate treatment highly equipped ambulances will be facilitated and also software that will help in selecting the ambulances and private hospitals.

This scheme of New Trauma Care was initiated taking into consideration 16 years’ reports provided by the officials. As per the data 60,233 have been killed during the road accidents in last 16 years followed by 7,41,867 major and minor injuries. This was the issue of concern and laid the blocks for the scheme.
