Punjab Govt imposes complete ban on Chinese Manjha

Chandigarh, December 19: The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday taking a stringent action has imposed the complete ban on Chinese Manjha in the State which was used for flying kites. 

Notably, the Punjab Government has imposed the complete ban on manufacturing, sale, production, storage, supply, and use of kite flying thread made of nylon, plastic or any other synthetic material including the popularly known as Chinese Manjha in the state.

An official spokesman while disclosing this decision of Punjab government said that any other kite-flying thread that is sharp or made sharp by lacing the same with glass, metal or any other sharp materials is also banned in the State. “kite flying would be permissible only with a cotton thread, free from any sharp, metallic, glass components, adhesives and thread strengthening materials,” the spokesperson added.

Importantly, it has been observed that synthetic Manjha/Nylon thread and all other similar synthetic threads, used for kite flying including the Chinese Manjha has an adverse effect on human beings, cattle population, birds, soil and ecology. Therefore, the State Government has issued the direction for banning the manufacture, supply, sale and storage of kite flying thread made out of nylon, plastic or any other synthetic material.
