Disabled children to study in regular schools under #Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

New Delhi, December 22: All children should be treated equally. The government has approved to involve disabled children to move in to regular schools. The government has executed a scheme in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) at elementary level and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikha Abhiyan (RMSA) at secondary level. Provisions are made available for the children of special needs to get education under regular schools.


 

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is the main programme in universalizing the education pattern for students from the age group of 6-14 years. The goal of the scheme is to provide the students with the necessary facilities and also give equal importance based on gender on enhancing the level of education and the categories involved. Under the SSA scheme the government has taken into consideration the children should take proper measures to involve normal and CWSN to come under one roof of education. An amount of 3000 rupees has been allotted for CWSN children for education. The major involvements for the education of CWSN are identification, functional and formal assessment, appropriate educational placement, preparation of Individualized Education Plan, provision of free aids and appliances, transport and/or escort support, teacher training, appointment of resource teachers, therapeutical support and barrier free access.

Besides this the objective of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikha Abhiyan provides students of secondary section to study four years from VI-XII class. Various measures have been taken like support for engagement of special teachers, equipping resource room, making school barrier free, orientation of parents, administrators, educationists etc.

Along with this Upendra Kushwaha HRD Minister said that they have given assistant devises to the CWSN students. Besides they are also given Braille books for blind children and large print books to students who are visually impaired children.
