Darjeeling hill residents to get pending ration of Gorkhaland agitation period soon

Darjeeling, December 23: Due to Gorkhaland agitation in the hills, local citizens got deprived of many basic rights during the turmoil period. Now, the government is trying to fulfill the dues to the deprived locals. Now, the government will distribute from Saturday ration due to hill residents.

In the hill area, there are 8.71 lakh ration card-holders among whom 9,000 tonnes of the ration is distributed every month. Usually, the hill residents draw a total of 11-kg per person, per month, at Rs 2 a kilo. The initiative to distribute pending ration was taken up at the behest of the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

 
"We are thankful to chief minister Mamata Banerjee, food minister Jyotipriya Mullick and the state government as they have decided to disburse from Saturday ration that could not be distributed during the strike," Binay Tamang, chairman of the board of administrators of the GTA, said.
