Actor Vishal to contest RK Nagar assembly by-poll

Chennai, December 4: Actor Vishal Krishna is all set for his political foray with the multi-cornered highly prestigious assembly segment of RK Nagar. Announcing the surprising move through twitter, Vishal mentioned that he would be fighting the high voltage poll as an independent candidate.


The 40-year actor who heads the forum of South Indian Film Artistes' Association and the Film Producers' Council is known for his social initiates and fearless comments on state politics. Recently, the ace actor came into the picture for slamming BJP leader H. Raja during the Mersal controversy. The general secretary of Nadigar Sangam has always pitched for the corruption film industry and issue like piracy.

Earlier in the day before heading for his official nomination, the ace actor first visited the Ramapuram house of legendary actor and former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran and later paid homage at Amma Memorial near Marina Beach. The ruling AIADMK has fielded E. Madhusudhanan where DMK has picked N. Marudhu Ganesh. BJP spokesperson K. Nagarajan and former AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran will also contest the by-election.

The RK Nagar will go to poll on December 21 and results will be out on December 24. All the mainstream political parties are also gearing up for the most anticipated by-polls after the death of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2016. RK Nagar has sizable numbers of people from Nadar community, fishermen, and Christians. It has significant numbers Telugu-speaking people.
