Kolkata, September 21: Darjeeling was being governed by Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) before it went into the indefinite shutdown. As all most every member resigned from GTA West Bengal Government has announced constitution of a panel to oversee the administration of Darjeeling hills. The rebel GJM leader Binay Tamang has been elected as the head.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said GTA will administer the Darjeeling hill area till next election. In this situation conducting an election is impossible. This decision has been taken to not halt the developmental work of Darjeeling.

"As per provisions of Section 65 (b) of the GTA act, we have decided to appoint a board of administrators under the chairmanship of Binay Tamang, who is leading the Morcha at this moment," Mamata Banerjee said.

Bimal Gurung lobby of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha already lost popularity in the hill. Now this decision will weaken them more. Binay Tamang who wants a discussion with government is gradually grabbing more power in the hill and gaining the support of Bengal government.

If this decision will really work for the hill or not that is still now questionable. It may catalyze the conflict between two GJM lobbies and with other political parties.
