New Delhi, January 1: Are you an ardent art lover? Do you like those wall paintings and graffiti art on walls? The wall painting has garnered a lot of attention and this has also attracted many on lookers and the official authorities. In India, especially in Mumbai you come across these paintings quite often.

Graffiti and street art at times are considered a nuisance by many but it has slowly made its way to being reflected as a legitimate art form around the world. Making a striking mark in the Graffiti art field, Kajal Singh is the first woman of India to be a graffiti artist. Hailing from a family of creativity, her parents have been very supportive of her decision of becoming a graffiti artist. Kajal Singh was at first introduced to hip-hop music and rhythm while she was in Delhi. When she was in Europe and jamming up with several hip-hop groups she was introduced to graffiti art. She is very crazy about her work but she is also a responsible artist. She doesn’t start work on a project without due permissions, even if that means delaying her work by a few weeks or months.

According to her people in rural areas are more open towards getting graffiti done on their walls than residents of urban areas. She also believes people in India are more interested to street art as it is still very new for India. She performs her art in Delhi, but she prefers and thinks that Bandra is the most creative place culturally and socially in Mumbai than in any places in Delhi. Her forte is in old-school graffiti. Her style of painiting includes blocky, bubbly letters in bright colours along with shine accents. She also creates tiny caricatures which often accompanies it with handwriting and other styles.

The turning point of Kajal’s life was when she was called to Germany to work with the Indo-German Hip Hop Urban Art Project in 2012. Her career only went upwards from then on. She worked on the same project in India in 2014 in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata and in Germany again in 2015.

Being the first woman as a graffiti artist, Kajal Singh has made a place for herself in the male dominated society and makes it very clear that art has no language. It just needs love for art and culture and you are through to make your dreams come true. The Department of Women and Child Development has also supported and appreciated her talent on being the first graffiti artist of India.

Newsbharati salutes to her spirit and encourages women to come out and prove their talent in all sectors.
