Chandigarh, January 16: Controversies regarding Padmavat seems unending. Now, Haryana adds it name to the list of states banning the movie due to burning controversy. Various parts of the state showed stark opposition against the film. After a cabinet meeting, the state has decided to ban the release of the movie.

The film is starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was originally named Padmavati but as it riffed violent protest across the country, after watching Central Board of Film Certification(CBFC) allowed the production house Viacom to release it after changing its name. CBFC, on December 28th, gave the film U/A certificate but on the conditions to modify certain parts. It was alleged that Bhansali had wrongly presented historical facts in the movie to "defame" the image of 'Rani Padmavati' and this had hurt sentiments of a particular group.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film — which stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khalji and Shahid Kapoor as Rana Ratan Singh — has been at the center of widespread protests by the Rajput groups and allies since earlier this year. Organisations such as the Karni Sena not only manhandled Bhansali and disrupted the film's shoot in Rajasthan; they called for a ban on Padmavati's release in the state. Several state governments then declared that they would not allow Bhansali's film to be screened in their theatres.

After acquiring the UA certificate, the makers of this period drama recently announced January 25 as their new release date. Earlier, the state governments of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand had decided to ban the film from being screened.
