Madhya Pradesh tops in execution of AMRUT yojana

Bhopal, January 24: Madhya Pradesh has become a top state in the country in execution of ‘AMRUT’ Yojana’ (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme of the Union Government, implemented with an objective to provide better basic amenities in small cities and towns of the country.

Informing this, Minister for Urban Development and Housing Maya Singh said that the targets of all the components of AMRUT Yojana will be achieved in all the 34 cities of the state till March 2020.

“Approval for 5 annual schemes costing Rs. 6 thousand 200 crore were given for 34 identified cities under the scheme in the state. Beside this, work on 39 work plans worth Rs. 2 thousand 824 crore has been started in the state,” Singh said.

He further noted that a time bound action plan in phases has been prepared by the Urban Development Department for effective execution of the scheme. Under the scheme, constant monitoring on progress of the works is being conducted by the Principal Secretary Urban Development and Commissioner Urban Development.

“An amount of Rs 6 thousand crore will be spent on the various components of AMRUT Yojana in the identified cities like water supply, sewage and septic management, rain water drainage, urban transformation, green places and parks developments.”

The Union Government will provide 33 percent and the financial assistance by the state government will be given for the execution of the scheme in the cities over 10 lakh population. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2015 with the focus of the urban renewal projects is to establish infrastructure that could ensure adequate robust sewage networks and water supply for urban transformation.
