Dehradun, January 29: One of the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India guarding the border that India shares with China, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has trained its Jawans to make them stronger to guard the borders.

The training sessions have been conducting in Uttarakhand's Auli region. The interesting part is that the training sessions include Skiing, one of the less popular in India. As the hilly area of Uttarakhand is covered with snow most of the time, ITBP is giving skiing training to its Jawans so that they will be able to fight and guard the border with a good pace.

"Ski training is conducted annually and the session lasts around three months when the region receives fresh snow," ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey told.

Also known as 'Himveers', the ITBP jawans are also trained in disaster management, nuclear, biological and chemical disasters, and for their duties in civil medical camps. During the skiing training, the Jawans will learn how to use arms and ammunition while skiing.

Skiing is a bit less popular in India, but recently India’s daughter Aanchal Thakur bagged India’s 1st ever bronze medal in the International Skiing Competition. Hails from Manali, 21-year-old Aanchal Thakur clinched the bronze medal in the coveted Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup organized by the Federation International de Ski.
