New Delhi, January 7: Following RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's sentencing, BJP leader Sambit Patra lambasted the Congress. RJD chief Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail by a CBI court in a fodder scam case. He will also have to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
“Few are in jail and few out on bail. Madhu Kodad, Lalu are in jail, Sonia Lalu are out on bail. Yet this alliance of corrupts are saying say that they will fight in the upcoming general elections in 2019," the BJP leader said tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Bihar Congress on Saturday asserted that Lalu Prasad's conviction in a fodder scam case will not have any impact on the party's ties with the RJD in the state.
"The special court's judgement to convict and sentence Lalu Prasad will not have impact on forces fighting for secularism and social justice. Congress-RJD alliance will continue in Bihar," Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee acting president Kaukab Qadri said.
Janata Dal (United) Secretary General K C Tyagi said a new political chapter has begun with the court's decision and it means politicians will be afraid of committing any such wrongdoing.
The RJD, on the other hand, said its leader has fallen prey to a "conspiracy" by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, the verdict will be challenged in the high court.
Lalu has been sentenced in the case relating to embezzling of more than Rs 89 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994.
