Bengaluru, Nov 16: In order to boost the existing tourism sector of Karnataka, Congress-JD(S) government has decided to build a mega memorial of Mother Cauvery.

Speaking to the media, Karnataka Irrigation Minister DK Shivakumar said that the proposed 125-feet structure of Mother Cauvery will be erected near Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir in Mandya district. With the whopping budget of Rs 1,200 crore, the memorial will be built on 400 acres of land.

Shivakumar further mentioned the state government will invite people and private players for fundraising The Minister underlined that taxpayer’s money will not be used for the same.

As reported by ANI,  a tourist plan which includes a bandstand, an indoor stadium and a replica of the historical monuments has been approved by the government officials. A new lake would be created next to the reservoir on which structures will come up.

Considered to be the lifeline of three southern states, Cauvery is the third biggest river after Krishna and Godavari. Cauvery originates in Karnataka’s Kodagu and flows through neighboring Tamil Nadu. Cauvery water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Naidu is the all-time political potboiler.
