Shillong, Dec 28: Meghalaya coal mine mishap #C13O of IAF carrying NDMA team to reach Guwahati today to rescue miners stuck in #Jaintia hills
Fifteen miners are trapped in an illegal "rat-hole" mine in Meghalaya, and their families have given up hope that they'll be rescued alive. The unscientific mining of coal using small horizontal holes along the coal seams has been banned by the National Green Tribunal since 2014.

Rescue ops suspended for want of high-powered pumps
as rescue operations were suspended by the state government this week for want of high-powered pumps to remove water from the pit.
These miners went 370-foot-deep mine and entered "rat-holes" horizontal tunnels that just about fit one person each after reaching the bottom. Five miners were able to climb out.
