Seoul, February 21: South Korea, the new friend of North Korea, the old ally of the United States are trying to maintain a balance between two sides. The firm believer in dialogues sees inter-Korean and U.S.-North Korea talks as "major pillars" of any dialogue aimed at denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. South Korea's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it will place its focus on talks as soon as Winter Olympics ends.
"To this end, the government will make efforts through various channels to persuade the North to come out for talks with the U.S. and also discuss detailed ways with the U.S. on a possible resumption of bilateral talks," South’s Foreign Minister Kang Kyung said.
A sudden sense of peace is growing between two Koreas since when North Korea agreed to send its delegation to Pyeongchang games. After a long time, the two countries opened the channel of communication. Though US is blaming North for using Olympics stage to mend reputation globally, South is highly optimistic to make the two sides.
