Dispur, February 4: A 1500-kilometre pipeline to be laid from Guwahati to Tinsukia to supply gas to the Northeastern States. Difficult terrains and lack of infrastructure makes exploration difficult in the northeastern states.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Global Investors Summit 'Advantage Assam' in Guwahati, the Minister said that earlier, the people of Assam complained that the benefit of oil and gas found in the state did not reach them.
The Union Petroleum Minister further said, the Centre has decided to change the scenario with the cooperation of the state government. He informed that the five major oil and natural gas PSUs - ONGC, Oil India Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, Numaligarh Refinery Limited and GAIL - will set up a joint company for this.
A hydrocarbon vision brought out by the Modi government intends to bring Rs.1.3 trillion in public and private investments in the north-eastern region to double oil and gas output in the next 15 years. The country produces about 223 million tonnes of petroleum products and 33 billion standard cubic metres of natural gas a year.
