Dubai, March 26: Saudi Arabia on Sunday intercepted seven short-range ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels that targeted residential suburbs in Riyadh. In this deadly attack, one Egyptian citizen was killed while two others were injured. Notably, this is a fifth incident that took place in a time period of three months.
Saudi Arabia's air force intercepted seven short-range ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels from Yemen that targeted residential suburbs in Riyadh in which one civilian was killed while two others were injured. Three missiles were aimed at the capital city of Riyadh, one was headed toward the southwest in Khamis Mushait, one along the southern border targeting Najran and two were headed for the southern city of Jizan.
Coalition forces spokesman Col. Turki Al Maliki in a statement said that the missiles were fired from Yemen at four target areas, and all the missiles were intercepted and destroyed. "These aggressive actions are in blatant violation to the UN Security Resolution 2216 and 2231. These hostile acts continue to pose a direct threat to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and threaten regional, as well as international, security," he added.
This is the fifth incident when Houthi rebels fired ballistic missiles targeting Saudi Arabia. Earlier in the month of January this year, Saudi Arabia intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels over its capital city Riyadh.
Interestingly, it was the same type of missile that was launched earlier at one of the kingdom's major international airports on the outskirts of the capital, Riyadh. Saudi officials blamed Iran for being behind the launch of the Burkan 2-H rocket and described it as an act of war.
The civil war in Yemen has killed more than 10,000 civilians and displaced 3 million others. Yemen is also suffering from the disastrous outbreak of cholera due to which 2180 civilians are killed while suspect cases have reached to 8,72,415 in the time period of 6 months.
