Mangaluru, Mar 29: Lamenting the fast deterioration of human values from education system RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohanrao Bhagwat on Tuesday sounded warning that decline of human values does not augur well for the society.
Dr Bhagwat was addressing the Ardhamandalotsava – completion of 24 years of the Maitreyee Gurukula at Moorkaje, Vitla.
The program was attended by Art of Living’s Sri Sri Ravishankar, Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji of the Adichunchanagiri Mutt and other dignitaries.
Maitreyee Gurukulam is located in Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka and is devoted to honing the qualities of girls. The project is run by a local trust that is part of the Hindu Sewa Pratishthan, Karnataka.
Maitreyi Gurukulam being true to tradition does not charge fees from the students. Education including lodging and boarding is provided free of cost in the Gurukulam that is run on public contribution. The society has recognized this endeavour and now the entrance test qualifiers only get the admission.
Dr Bhagwat further said that “It is known that universities do not teach smuggling however smuggling is still present in them. The universities which could produce noble personalities are reducing unfortunately. The education which turned out to be business and a money making way has deteriorated the values in the society”, Sarasanghachalak Bhagwat said in his address.
The British for their benefit established an education system and they succeeded in achieving their goal. We had a much supreme system which was destroyed. However the irony is even after the British left we have not reformed our education system.
Even during the time when British ruled and governed the education system we must not forget that great personalities like Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi were born here. We must attribute the success to such a thing to the rich Bharatiya culture and values, Dr. Bhagwat said.
