Moscow, April 17: Sighting the attacks on Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the western attacks on Syria would create chaos in international relations. Creating new economic sanctions, the United States tried to impart pressure on Russia.

In a telephonic conversation between Putin and Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, Mr Putin and Mr Rouhani agreed the Western strikes had damaged the chances of achieving a political resolution in the seven-year Syria conflict.

As Kremlin issued a statement regarding the conversation, it also emphasized that Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that if such actions committed in violation of the UN Charter continue, then it will inevitably lead to chaos in international relations.

The comments came out after the announcement made by US that it is ready to ramp up pressure against Russia in the form of economic sanctions in a bid to halt Moscow’s support for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, who is accused of perpetrating the recent chemical attack.

The U.S.-led coalition launched on Saturday over 100 missiles targeting chemical weapon facilities in Syria following the suspected poison gas attack in Douma earlier this month.

Western governments said Assad was responsible for the use of internationally prohibited weapons, though the Syrian and Russian governments denied any involvement in the attack.

The Russian president also warned that any such moves in the future would seriously damages the prospects for a political settlement in Syria.
