An Agenda for VHP

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has got a new leadership and I wish them all the success. Whenever a new management takes over there are new expectations, it is natural. Being a Hindu, naturally even I have some expectations from the new management and I thought of reaching out to them through media. I am neither getting into their stated objective nor getting into what they are currently doing. I am expressing what is expected out of VHP by a common Hindu in today’s scenario.

By the name one gets the impression that VHP is an organisation for the Hindus across the globe. With rising number of Hindus across the globe along with rising Islamic terrorism and Christian evangelism the responsibility of VHP increases manifold. Unfortunately VHP so far has not even spoken about the plight of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh, while Ministry of External Affairs keep giving visas to Pakistanis. VHP doesn’t need to criticise government for this but needs to force the government to make quid pro quo deal with Pakistan government. Pakistan government should be forced to allow at least thousand Hindu families to shift to India for every medical visa being granted to them.

Kathua rape issue has reached UN but no one talks about plight of Rinkal Kumari and other Hindu girls in Pakistan who are raped lifelong. Rohingya Muslims are forcefully converting Hindus even in the refugee camps, in Bangladesh Hindus are tortured and killed regularly but VHP keeps mum. 39 Indians were kidnapped and killed by ISIS for being Hindu but not a single word was heard from VHP. ( I don’t mean press release). Compare this to when a Christian or Muslim gets kidnapped, whole Church and Imams get together and put pressure on government. Till Indian saints are busy forming their own separate religion, VHP will have to speak for Hindus.

Ram Janmabhoomi was one of the agenda of VHP, I wonder how many consulates, Prime Ministers and Presidents of other nations have been convinced by VHP about it. Ram is a legend across Asia, and in many countries in Africa. (It is different than taking Kashmir issue to UN). Islamist have got Islamic nations to speak for them and put pressure on Indian government.

Hindu god, goddesses are regularly made fun off but no one hears a word from VHP.

VHP should give up Sadgun Vikrati and also handover sewa karya (social service) to RSS and focus on Hindu causes beyond sewa karya.

Hindus fought and won text book irregularities in USA, I wonder if VHP had any role in it? There are individuals who are fighting to get the stolen statues back from across the world, there are individual who are helping Hindus from Pakistan settle in India, there are individuals who are fighting Ram Janma Bhoomi case, there are individuals who are fighting to get temples back from government control, and there are many such examples of individual initiative.

As per media reports PFI spent 1 crore on lawyers to keep a Hindu girl in Islamic fold can VHP take up such fights? It is said that, Churches in India own lot of illegal properties, can VHP investigate it? Missionaries activity in India is increasing day by day, can VHP stop it? Hindu society is being fragmented day by day by communists, has VHP got a plan to counter it?

Christianity across Europe and USA is dying and Christians are looking towards spirituality, i.e. Hinduism. Whole lot of Muslims want to give up Islam and shift to Hinduism. Someone needs to take it to them in an organised way through an aggressive movement. Can VHP?

This is just a small list of things that needs to be done for Hindus across the world.

Hope VHP, like Hanuman remembers it prowess and goes for attack, full throttle. In the past it has undertaken humongous tasks successfully.

What is heartening is that there is a demand; there is a need for VHP in India and outside India. On 8 April a leading newspaper reported the following: THEY ARE young, between 19 and 24 years. They travel across Bihar’s Sheikhpura district on their motorcycles, carrying the message of “Hindu unification”. They aren’t just members of the district’s new Bajrang Dal unit, they virtually set it up on their own last year. And on March 28, it was they who took the lead in organising the first ever Ram Navami procession here with over 4,000 people....

One of them, Vivek Kumar Singh, 22 years old and ward 8 in-charge, finds mention in the police FIR as one of those who approached the administration for permission to stage the procession. “I always wanted to protect the Hindu faith. At that time there was no Bajrang Dal in Sheikhpura. But I have a friend in Giridih who is part of the Dal. He sent me videos of gau hatya that was carried out in the country, and how the Dal stops it. I told him that I wished there was a similar organisation in Sheikhpura, and he put me in touch with seniors in the organisation. I met them, they gave us instructions, and we joined the Dal,” says Singh.”

The above is not an isolated incident. Just few days back there was a movement on social media led by youngsters for Hanuman ji and today Hanuman ji is a fad.

It is a god send opportunity for VHP, if it cannot encash this then it will be really sad and heart breaking.

BJP is one of the many political parties of India, VHP is spokesperson for Hindus across the world. It needs to understand the nuances. It does not need to be political; it needs to be statesman like. Beyond India, it needs to influence politics of those countries where population of Hindus are significant, the way Church, Islamic Organisations and bigger NGOs do.

VHP needs to revisit the drawing board and rework its objectives and goals if it wants to remain relevant or else individuals are doing the needful for Hindus.

And yes, Kathua is the chance for VHP to stand up and be counted. Hope the new management is listening. As a staunch supporter of VHP, I have lots of hope.
