New Delhi, April 2: Do not you want to share your Aadhaar number? Do you fear that if you share the 12 digit Aadhaar number somewhere, then can your information be stolen? In such a scenario, for the users who do not wish to share their unique biometric numbers anywhere, UIDAI (Indian Unique Identification Authority) has come up with a new feature called Aadhaar Virtual ID (VID).

With the help of VID, you will be able to use it from Bank Transaction to E-KYC (e-KYC) service. After the Virtual ID, you will not need to provide a base card number.

What is virtual ID?

VID is a 16 digit number, which is linked to your base number. This number is temporary and it keeps changing. With the help of VID, you have to give the number of the virtual number of 16 instead of the 12 digit base number.

Why is it special?

Because this is a digital ID, so the Aadhaar holder can generate it many times. Instead of sharing the Aadhaar number, the use of Virtual ID is more secure. At present, the Virtual ID is valid only for one day. After one day you will have to generate it again.

Make virtual IDs in this ways

Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website to generate Aadhar virtual ID

Step 2: Here you will find the Virtual ID (VID) Generator option in the Aadhaar Services tab, click on it. This process is possible only if your mobile number is registered on UIDAI database. That's because here you have to give a One Time Password (OTP) with your registered mobile number.

Step 3: After filling the Aadhaar number, OTP and Security Code options, click on Submit button.

After this your virtual ID will be generated.
