Abu Dhabi, May 12: Taking a stringent action on its fierce regional rival Iran over the support of terrorism, the United Arab Emirates has added nine Iranian individuals and entities to the approved list of terrorism supporters.

Notably, the UAE cabinet has placed nine Iranian people and entities on its list of terrorists and terrorist organizations for suspected connections with Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards. The move comes in line with the UAE’s keenness to target and disrupt networks associated with terrorist financing and activities.

In a statement, the UAE official said, “The nine individuals and entities have been designated for procuring and transferring millions in U.S. dollar-denominated bulk cash to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force.”

“It did not specify whether any of the people or entities had any link to the UAE. The step was taken following close collaboration with the United States, which has designated the same individuals and entities,” he added.

The United States hailed the UAE’s efforts and its close cooperation in this regard, stressing that all countries should be aware of Iran’s efforts to exploit the financial institutions of other countries to exchange currencies and finance the terrorist organizations of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Interestingly, the move from UAE comes few days after US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of United States in the 2015 landmark nuclear deal.
