New Delhi, May 4: India’s exemplary performance at the Commonwealth games and International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup made the country proud. Honouring these medalists the Indian Air Force yesterday felicitated six air warriors for the extraordinary performance at the international podium.
While addressing the felicitation ceremony Air Force Chief Birendra Singh Dhanoa stressed on saying that the medals won by the sportsmen have become role model for the other air warriors and for the youth of the nation. Emphasising on the sustained efforts in improving performance, the Chief congratulated the Air Force Sports Control Board, including the coaches, for providing training and support to the air warriors.
The Air Force Chief BS Dhanoa felicitated Junior Warrant Officer (JWO) Vikas Thakur and Sgt Gururaja won a bronze (94 Kg weight class) and a silver medal (56 Kg weight class) respectively, in the weightlifting event at CWG 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.
JWO Ravi Kumar won a bronze medal in the 10 metre Air Rifle event, both at the CWG and at the ISSF World Cup Mexico, 2018. He is presently ranked third in the ISSF Rankings.
Reining the number 1 spot ISSF Ranking, Sgt Shahzar Rizvi won the coveted gold medal and set a world record in the 10 metre Air Pistol event at the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Mexico.
Ranking 3rd in Asia and at number 9 in ISSF ranking, Sgt Deepak Kumar won a bronze medal in the 10 metre Air Rifle mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico 2018.
Aircraftsmen (AC) Gaurav Rana won a silver medal in the individual event and gold medal in the team event in the 10 metre Air Pistol events at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney.
Respecting and honoring the efforts taken by the athletes in winning the medals, the athletes have even won many hearts by their exemplary performance by draping the tricolor on the victory dais.
