Media should educate masses about Indian Values: RSS leader Arun Kumar

Nagpur, June 1: Underlining the role of media in the overall development of the society, Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh (Media in-charge) of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Arun Kumar said all the stakeholders in media should give a thought on the existing pattern of content generation and consumption. He was speaking at the Vishwa Samvad Kendra Nagpur’s Narad Jayati programme.

Commenting on the emergence of social media, Kumar stated that internet driven platforms have redefined the structure of traditional media. The RSS leader pointed that with the availability of smartphones, every individual has turned out to be a journalist.

Responding to the criticism of media, Kumar said that none other than friends working in media have to break the stereotypical mindset to revive the perception of the common citizen. He further suggested that churning and deliberations on the unnecessary subject should to avoided to regain the lost credibility.

Reacting to the ongoing criticism on linking Maharshi Narad to scribes, Kumar said that Narad, a mythological character embodies the spirit of a true a journalist. Referring to first Hindi newspaper Udant-Martand, Kumar indicated that India’s first daily was launched with the photograph of Maharshi Narad. He recounted that the edition was launched on the birth-anniversary of Maharshi Narad but nobody had challenged the intentions of publishers.

He observed that reservations are being expressed only by some section having pre-conceived notions about our ancient treasure. They are not in a condition to acknowledge the existence of Bharat before the colonial invasion, Kumar maintained.

Expressing concern over the tendency of self-negligence, the RSS media in-charge opined that people should refrain from underestimating Indian thinkers and media has to take initiative to educate masses about the contribution of our forefather.

Addressing the gathering, Sidharthvinayk Kane, Vice-Chancellor of RTM Nagpur University suggested that media should tone-down the negative news flow. Referring to the alleged nexus between media outlets and politicians Kane advised scribes not to compromise with the ethics of journalism.

On this occasion, senior Journalist Avinash Mahalakshme, Nandu Andhare, and Pravin Mudholkar were honored with the awards for their contribution in the field of journalism. Prabhakar Karpe and Sushma Pachpore were also feted for their long association with Vishwa Samvad Kendra.
