Centre to soon launch scheme to test sports ability of 2-3 crore children across country

Ahmedabad, July 16: Central government will soon launch an ambitious scheme to test sports ability of two to three crore children across the country. This was said by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore while interacting to the fitness enthusiasts in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.

 

During his day-long visit to Ahmedabad TransStadia Stadium, located in Maninagar in Ahmedabad, Rajyavardhan Rathore had detailed discussions with the athletes about the upcoming Gujarat Khel Mahakumbh.

On this occasion, Rajyavardhan Rathore said that around one thousand children will be selected every year under the physical capability mapping programme. “To empower the selected children and groom their sports talent, government will be provided a scholarship of five lakh rupees per annum for eight years,” he added.

The Sports Minister further briefed the importance of athletes in the state and the country and the important role played by them in representing the country at higher levels. He also highlighted various initiatives of government taken in a bid to ensure excellence in sports.

He in a series of tweet said, “A great conversation with coaches, young sportspersons & their parents at @SETransStadia. A good, dedicated coach is absolutely essential for success in sports. Highlighted various initiatives of @IndiaSports towards ensuring excellence in sports.”


He further said, “Rajyavardhan Rathore expressed his happiness meeting with the athletes in Gujarat. Wishing them all the best for their future endeavors.”


Remembering his sports activity being in Army, Rajyavardhan Rathore tweeted, “Always up for a #challenge! There's something magnetic about the sporting field, you just can't resist it especially when someone throws a challenge. Got a 'kick' out of a football challenge thrown by a friend, reminded me of the #football matches I played in my army days.”
