When emerging Super Powers meet: India strengthens bilateral relations with BRICS bloc

Johannesburg, July 27: The BRICS Summit 2018 in Johannesburg gave insights of countries pitching for multilateralism, growing trade and more importantly working towards the development of the people. The BRICS summit in its Johannesburg Declaration has reaffirmed the principles of democracy and inclusiveness, implementation of the UN charter and respect for Rule of law.

Addressing the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the fourth industrial revolution presents both opportunities and challenges for the BRICS nations. On sidelines of the BRICS Summit PM Modi also hold bilateral ties with the countries in the BRICS bloc emerging economies.

India and South Africa share a special relationship as it is bonding strongly over years. 2018 is a historical year for their relations, as it marks the commemoration of twenty-five years of diplomatic relations between South Africa and India.

Following delegation-level talks between PM Narendra Modi and Cyril Ramaphosa, the two countries signed three MoUs on cooperation in Exploration & Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes, setting up of Gandhi Mandela Centre of Specialisation for Artisan Skills & Agricultural Research & Education.

Apart from that, the two countries saluted the enduring legacy of Mahatma and Mandel. PM Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa jointly released a stamp commemorating the two iconic personalities.

India and China have emerged as strong superpowers and have strengthened their relations in the past few months. The Wuhan Informal Summit was one of the much talked and accorded summit where PM Modi and President Xi Jinping consolidated bilateral ties and the meeting at the BRICS Summit witnessed the two leaders meet the third time yet again to strengthen relations.

Both leaders had a comprehensive discussion PM Modi also held bilateral talks with President of Argentina Mauricio Macri on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. The meeting between the leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and food processing and pharmaceuticals.

Better late than never! Bonding over delegation talks, India and Russia consolidated their relation discussed on bilateral issues of mutual interest, especially in trade & investment, energy, defense, and tourism. PM Modi and Russian President Putin got over at midnight local time discussing and solidifying relations.
