Top Court also said there is no absolute bar in granting anticipatory bail in cases lodged against public servants under SC/ST Act. The judgment led countrywide protest.

On August 1 this year, Narendra Modi led BJP government at centre finally decided to overturn the ruling of the apex court order on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. However, there was no formal announcement on the amendment was made by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in the Parliament. He just said, “The Narendra Modi government cares about the development of our Dalit and Adivasi brothers and will strive in that direction. We have done that before, and will do so going ahead.”
