Trent Bridge, August 22: After losing two consecutive test matches, Indian cricket team finally won the third match against England. Notably, India registered a comprehensive 203-run victory over England on the last day of third test match by taking one and last wicket of James Anderson. India a 5-match series, India has won one test while England 2 with two left to play.
Emphatic inning from Indian skipper Virat Kohli and outstanding performance by bowler Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian team to win their maiden test match of the 5-test tournament today. On day 4 England were 311 for 9 wickets as it was Jasprit Bumrah’s spell that led the result into favour of the Indian team.
Needing one wicket to win on the fifth and final day, Ravichandran Ashwin took the wicket of James Anderson at the score of 11 runs in the first session itself on the fifth day. Bumrah's figures of 5/85, supported by Ishant Sharma's 2/70 while Mohammed Shami, Ashwin and Hardik Pandya took a wicket each and dismissed England. However, the hard-work of Jose Buttler by putting up 106 runs on the board went into vain.
Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli put up a superlative performance by scoring 97 and 103 runs respectively in his two innings. After being invited to bat first, Indian team put up 352 runs on the board and in reply, England team was bowled out for a mere 161 runs. Taking the lead of 191 runs, Indian team scored 329 runs. To win the third match and series, England had to make 521 runs but were bowled out for 317 runs.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli was awarded Man of the Match honour. The next fixture in this five-Test match series is in Southampton, Rose Bowl from 30th August.
