New Delhi, Jan 10: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mr Ibrahim on his recent election as President of the PKR Party. Member of the Malaysian Parliament, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had a talk with PM Modi. Two leaders discussed bilateral, regional and global matters of mutual interest.
Modi fondly recalled their last meeting in Malaysia in May 2018. The Prime Minister also conveyed his warm regards to H. E. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Ibrahim was accompanied by two Members of the Malaysian Parliament, Hon. Kesavan Subramanian and Hon. Santhara Kumar Ramanaidu.
From 2000–2013, Malaysia is the 19th largest investor in India with cumulative FDI inflows valued at US$618.37 million. More than US$6 billion Malaysian investments also come in the form of telecommunications, healthcare, banking and construction projects.
Malaysian companies as well as participating in many infrastructure projects across different Indian states. In 2017, India and Malaysia signed a new business deal amounting to U$36 billion with the exchange of 31 business memorandum of understanding (MoU), the largest in the history of economic relations between the two countries. There is also a Malaysia India Business Council.
Many Malaysian students pursue medical education in India. With over 30% of the doctors in Malaysia, today having been educated in India.
ASEAN remains the cornerstone of Malaysia’s foreign policy and the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2015 has significantly elevated Malaysia’s approach and engagement at the regional level. Concurrently strengthening bilateral and multilateral aspects of Malaysia’s engagement with the world will continue to be an important focus.
