Nagpur, Jan 4: Veteran Gandhian and Retired justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari on Thursday passed away at the age of 91. Born in Raipur, the former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court shot to fame with his historical verdict during the Emergency on human rights.
In his judgment, Dharmadhikari said, “The Right to Life is natural and a human right,” which opened the gates of the high court during the Emergency imposed by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Gao Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Maha Education Minister Vinod Tawade offered their condolence on the demise of justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari.

A recipient of Padma Bhushan, Justice Dharmadhikari was a well-known Gandhian ideologue and Sarvodaya Movement. He was the son of Social activist Dada Dharmadhikari, a close aide of Acharya Vinoba Bhave.
