Arresting property dealers, ED identifies 36 benami plots of Iqbal Mirchi in India, UAE and UK

New Delhi, October 12: Post arrest of the two associated with fugitive gangster and Dawood Ibrahim's aide Iqbal Mirchi, an international drug dealer who died in August, 2013 in the UK, the ED on Saturday has identified a total of his 36 benami properties in India and abroad.

 
 
The set of properties identified include 10 in Mumbai, 1 in UAE and 25 in the United Kingdom where the ED is slated to start the process to attach the properties in India while Letters Rogatory will be sent to UK and UAE to attach the properties.
 
ED yesterday arrested Haroun Yousuf and Ranjit Singh Bindra, two associates of Mirchi under Prevention of Money Laundering Act. While the case has been registered against the two, they have been sent to remand for five days from Friday.
 
The probe pertains to Mirchi purchasing three properties belonging to Sir Mohammad Yusuf Trust in September 1986 for an amount of Rs 6.5 lakh through his company Rockside Enterprise. These properties, Sea View, Marium Lodge and Rabia Mansion, measuring 1,537 sq metre are located in Worli area of Mumbai.
 
The ED will be carrying out a crackdown on assets both movable and immovable acquired by organised crime syndicates from proceeds of crime in Maharashtra's Mumbai.
