MIB pulls collars of news channels for broadcasting content which may instigate violence

New Delhi, December 21: Observing that notwithstanding with the advisory, Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued an advisory asking TV channels to refrain from broadcasting content which is likely to instigate violence and promote anti-national attitudes.


 

Citing its earlier advisory, the Ministry said, it is observed that notwithstanding with the advisory, some TV channels are telecasting content which does not appear to be in the spirit of the Programme Codes.

Also, it is likely to instigate violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national attitudes; contains anything affecting the integrity of the nation.

It asked TV channels not to show the content that contains anything which may affect the integrity of the nation, maligns or slanders any individual in person or certain groups, segments of the social public and moral life of the country.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has asked for strict compliance of the advisory. A similar advisory was issued by the Ministry on the 11th of this month following the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

This is the second such communication in less than 10 days. The last advisory by the I&B ministry was issued on 11 December when the Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha, after which protests had broken out in several parts of the country.
