Bengaluru, Mar 15: Days after Congress- JD(S) seat-sharing announcement, BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna today called on actress Sumalatha, wife of late Kannada star and former Union Minister MH Ambareesh on the burning issue of prestigious Mandya Lok Sabha segment.  Krishna, a native of Mandya district is likely to campaign in Old Mysuru districts to tap in politically sensitive Vokkaliga voters in favor of BJP.  According to media reports, state BJP leaders in a bid to resolve the ongoing tussle on Mandya requested Krishna to pursue Sumalatha who is willing to contest from Mandya seat.
Speaking to the media, the former Union Minister said that party will take the call on Mandya after Sumalatha’s decision. The actor turned politician is likely to announce her move on March 18. Heaping praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the former Congress leader urged people to ensure the second term of BJP under the leadership of PM Modi.

A three-term MP from Mandya, Ambareesh passed away in November last year due to prolonged illness. Banking on Ambareesh’s mass appeal and fan base, the multi-lingual actress Sumalatha requested state Congress leaders and expressed her wish to contest Lok Sabha from Mandya but citing seat-sharing pact with JD(S) Congress turned down the request.

Launching a frontal attack on state Congress leaders, Sumalatha said that Congress party by granting Mandya seat to JD(S) has mocked the works in Mandya. Reports on various social media platforms making rounds about Sumalatha’s poll understanding with BJP. On the other hand, JD(S) is planning to field Nikhil Gowda, son of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy from Mandya. Karnataka will go to polls on April 18 and 23.
