Bengaluru, March 5: Refuting all the media reports over the alleged closure of Kannada medium schools, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy today clarified that the state government has no plans to shut down existing Kannada medium schools.

Addressing the meeting of Karnataka Munnade at Vidhana Soudha, Kumaraswamy informed that separate sections for English and Kannada medium will be allocated where parents can go ahead with their choice of medium of instruction. Backing state government’s decision, the Chief Minister stated that the introduction of English in state-run schools will provide a good opportunity to those who can not afford heavy eduction fees.

Last year, Kumaraswamy came under fire over the introduction of English medium in 1,000 government schools from the next academic year. Even former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah had voiced against the decision.
