Proud Moment! PM Modi to be felicitated by Russia's Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle' award

Moscow, April 12: After getting felicitated by UAE's prestigious Zayed medal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be felicitated by another highly prestigious Russia's highest civilian award, 'Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle'. Russian President Vladimir Putin today signed the decree to award this award to PM Modi. Taking cognisance of inclusive governance by Modi govt, a statement from the Russian embassy in India says, “Prime Minister exceptional services in promoting a special & privileged strategic partnership between both the countries and friendly relations between the Russian and Indian peoples.”

 

With the Russian award, PM Narendra Modi has now been honoured with around seven top global awards. PM Modi has previously been awarded the United Arab Emirates's top honour as well as of countries including South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Afghanistan. PM Modi has also been awarded a United Nations honour. 

 

Among the foreign political figures who have been conferred with this award include President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Chairman of the PRC Xi Jinping. In 2017, Chinese president Xi Jinping was awarded the Order of St Andrew the Apostle.

History of this Award -

The Order of St Andrew the Apostle is both the highest and the old state decoration of Russia. The order was abolished in the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1918 and was re-established in 1998. Russia's this Order was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great, in honour of Saint Andrew, the first apostle of Jesus and patron saint of Russia. It was bestowed in a single class and was only awarded for the most outstanding civilian or military merit. 
Among the gentlemen of the Order were military leaders and statesmen Fedor Golovin (first award, 1699), Tsar Peter I and Gavriil Golovkin (both - 1703), Fedor Apraksin (1710), Grigory Potemkin-Tavrichesky (1774), Sergey Uvarov (1850) Sergey Stroganov (1861), Konstantin Pobedonostsev (1898), Peter Semenov-Tian-Shansky (1911).
