Kolkata, April 17: There is a famous saying, ‘Everything is fair in love and war’. And when its war, its always ‘Saam Daam Dand Bhed’ which comes into effect for winning it. When the most awaited biopic on Narendra Modi was about to be released, the opposition came roaring at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pointing at condemn of code of conduct. But when the table turned and it was BJP’s turn, the opposition remained numb and shut.

A latest development in the state of West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party ((BJP) in the state has approached the Election Commission to review an alleged biopic on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee titled ‘Baghini: Bengal Tigress’. They have requested the EC to take similar steps as it had taken in the case of the biopic based on PM Narendra Modi.

In a letter signed by Joy Prakash Majumdar, Vice-President, BJP (WB), the party stated, “This is to draw your attention to the news in the media that a biopic allegedly on Smt. Mamata Banerjee will be released on 3 May 2019. “Bharatiya Janata Party requests the Hon’ble Election Commission of India and its representative in West Bengal to review said biopic before release, on similar lines that was done by the Hon’ble Election Commission in the case of another biopic depicting Shri. Narendra Modi.”

Earlier, the Election Commission had stalled the release of films which targeted any political parties or individuals. It had ordered that any biopic that intends or had the has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections should not be displayed through electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Previously, a biopic on PM Modi, titled ‘PM Narendra Modi’ starring Vivek Oberoi was stalled by the EC ahead of its release on April 11, the day the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls had kicked off. Films based on former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, titled ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’, and on current Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao, 'Udyama Simham' also were stalled by the election body.

Well, Mamata Banerjee is known for disobeying or unfollowing the rules levelled by the high commissions in the country. Thinking that she can get away with it was her biggest mistake as things have turned wicked for the leader during this election campaigning. Earlier the Ministry of Home Affairs and EC slammed the Trinamool Congress for bringing Bangladeshi actor for campaigning and now stalling her biopic, EC has signified that all rules will be same for everyone during this election season.
