Security Forces gun down two Maoists in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, April 18: In Chhattisgarh, two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Dantewada district of Bastar division today. The encounter took place at the jungles of Duvalikarka in Kuakonda area. Police recovered two rifles from the spot. One of the killed Maoists had a reward of five lakh rupees on his head.


 

Three days back, Three Naxals were killed and one CRPF jawan was martyred in an early morning encounter in Jharkhand's Belbha Ghat. The gun battle broke out after the security forces carried out a special operation in the forest area. One AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and four pipe bombs have been recovered from the encounter site.

On April 9, 34 Naxals, including three women surrendered before police in Sukma district on Monday. Police said they laid down their arms before Sukma Superintendent of Police DS Maravi at Errabor police station.

All the naxals were low rung functionaries of the proscribed outfit and were involved in cases of loot, attempt to murder in areas like Manikonta, Gaganpalli, Kongdam, Mettaguda and Maraiguda villages of Errabor area. The Police said 17 of them had permanent arrest warrants against their names.

Last Month, ten Naxals, including two women surrendered in the same district. Also, four Naxals were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district today. Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P said the encounter took place around 6 in the morning in a forest in the Chintalnar police station area. He said, an elite unit of the CRPF was cordoning off the forest area near Karkanguda village, when a group of Naxals started firing on them, leading to a gun-battle.

Anti-Naxal operations have been intensified in the forests of Bastar division in view of the Lok Sabha elections.

Recently, A CRPF Jawan was martyred and six others were injured in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district Monday evening, police said. The attack took place at around 5 pm when a team of CRPF's 231st battalion was on an area domination operation from its Kamal post towards Kondapara village under the Aranapur police station area, Deputy Inspector General (anti- Naxal operations) Sundarraj P said.

When the patrolling team was advancing through the forest just 200 meters away from the post, a group of armed rebels triggered an IED blast and opened indiscriminate firing on them, setting off a gun-battle, he said.
