New Delhi, April 20: The Delhi Police has launched two helpline numbers for complaints related to noise pollution and incidents of mob violence in the national capital. The helpline numbers have been introduced in compliance with the directions of Supreme Court that a response system may be introduced to deal with the problems. It is to prevent the instances of loss of life and public as well as private properties during incidences of mob violence.

People can lodge complaints against the use of loudspeakers, public address system, sound amplifiers and other complaints. A senior police official said. Prompt action would be taken against any people using such sound system, whether fitted on static location or vehicle, police said.

The two helpline numbers -- 155270 and 155271 -- launched on April 5, operated by the Police Control Room, will remain operational 24x7 to ensure quick response and action into complaints of mob violence or calls related to noise pollution, they said.

In compliance with the directions of National Green Tribunal, a 24X7 helpline number 155271 has been launched to receive calls related to noise pollution.

The bench said it is the duty of state governments to ensure law and order in society and States cannot turn a deaf ear to such incidents.

In 2018, the top court passed the order on a plea seeking formulation of guidelines to curb such violent incidents in the country.
