Jet officers and staff continue to protest; Trouble inflates with group mediclaim policies getting lapsed

Mumbai, May 3: The All India Jet Airways Officers and the staff in a huge number continue their silent protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai requesting the government to interfere save the airlines. This is after Shailesh Singh, an employee committed suicide on April 26, running out of financial support.

The shut down of the airlines has not only created a debt burden on the concern, but also has left the concerned staff in a canvass. Almost 22000 employees lost their jobs following the SBI’s decision denying assistance of Rs 400 crores to the airlines.


The airlines staff on Wednesday paid condolences to late Shailesh Singh who quit the world after the airline carrier suspended all its flight operations and he failed to raise bank loans. Singh, a senior technician in Jet Airways, was suffering from stomach cancer. The crisis surrounding the Airline had allegedly forced him to commit suicide by jumping off a building in Mumbai.


It was on occasion of Labour Day also that the employees had organised a peaceful protest and requested the government's interference to save the airline. The trouble for the employees has meanwhile aroused high with the mediclaim policies getting lapsed.


"In the absence of any emergency funding from the lenders or any other source of funds forthcoming in the near future, we find ourselves facing a situation where we are not able to fund the premium of our group mediclaim policy.


The group mediclaim policy lapses on the midnight of April 30, 2019”, Rahul Taneja, CPO, Jet Airways confirmed. Although the airlines parallel have moved ahead to assist the employees concerned at priority, that does not seem to be enough as the situation around are on the verge of getting verse. Probably the authorities need to take some major steps for the 22000 families suffering amidst.
