New Delhi, June 12: Considering the alertness for cyclone VAYU in Gujarat, Western Railways has decided to fully cancel the operations of 15 mainline trains, while 16 other mainline trains are supposed to be short terminated with partial cancellation as a precautionary measure in the cyclone prone areas.
In addition to this, various safety and security precautions are also being taken for train passengers of these prone areas under the jurisdiction of Western Railways aligned to Veraval, Okha, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Bhuj and Gandhidham.
“Apart from this, the coaching stock presently available at depots and station yards at coastal areas are being shifted to safe places. Also the Western Railways HQ and the divisions have been instructed for better coordination with state authorities for passenger convenience”, the WR official said.
According to the MeT department, the stormy winds are set to hit and cross the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva as a very severe cyclone with wind speed 145-155 kmph gusting to 170 kmph tomorrow morning.
The Gujarat government, which is on high alert, has deployed National Disaster Response Force personnel in the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch on Tuesday. It has also advised fishermen against venturing into the sea in the next few days, while ports have been directed to flag a danger signal.
