India Appreciates 'Royal Pardon' to 17 Indians by the Sultan of Oman

Muscat, June 13: On the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said has granted a ‘royal pardon’ to 17 Indians serving various jail sentences in Oman. The Indian Embassy in Oman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar appreciated the merciful gesture of Oman’s Sultan.


 

“Government of India appreciates this compassionate gesture from a friendly country,” Indian Embassy in Muscat tweeted yesterday. India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar thanked Oman’s Sultan saying, “We appreciate this merciful gesture on the auspicious occasion of Eid ul Fitr by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos of Oman.”

 

India and Oman have been in good relations since 1960s. In 2018 Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Oman and many contracts had been made between the two countries in the fields of defence, health and tourism.
