Avadi becomes 15th municipal corporation of Tamil Nadu!

Chennai, Jun 18: In Tamil Nadu, a new Municipal Corporation has been formed. Avadi, a Chennai suburb, has been announced as the 15th  municipal corporation in the state.
 
An ordinance to this effect has been promulgated by the Governor, which will be replaced by a bill to be passed in the state Assembly later.
 
The ordinance says, growing population in Avadi, rising income levels and the increasing demand for more civic services necessitate the upgradation of the municipality into a corporation.
 
As per the ordinance, the present special officer of Avadi municipality will continue to be the special officer of the Avadi corporation.
 
The corporation will get a mayor, a council, standing committee, ward committee, and a commissioner.
