Days of elements sowing ‘Anti-national Activity’ comes to an end, UP clears Private Universities Ordinance Draft

Lucknow, June 20: Breeding anti-national activity in private universities’ campus in any manner will not be tolerated says recently cleared the draft of the new ordinance called ‘Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Ordinance, 2019’ by the state government.


 

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday has given a nod to bring under one law 27 private universities of the state, with a rider that the said universities give an undertaking that they will not indulge in or permit ‘anti-national activities’ in their institutions.

With this, the sticks of anti-national elements will be broken off, the days of elements that sowed ideological poison in educational institutions under the guise of student politics will also come to an end.

The draft ordinance also provides for the private universities to commit that they would not indulge in any anti-national activity and not associate or allow any such activity on its campus. It empowers the state government for action if a university was found involved in any such activity and violated the conditions for setting it up.

The draft also envisages existing varsities, as well as new universities which may be established under it, following the stated goals of “national integration, secularism, international goodwill, ethics and social harmony.”

Also, universities will admit students from poor communities on a 50 per cent fee while ensuring that 75 per cent of the faculty is taken as permanent employees, says the ordinance.
