New Delhi, June 26: Sulking over the poll debacle, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi has been pitching to quit from reigning the realms of Congress Party. Creating drama and huge fuss about it, the Congress Members of Parliament (MP) have been asking him to reconsider his decision. During a Congress parliamentary party meeting chaired by Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi refused to budge and stood firm on his decision to quit the leadership.

Taking all the blame for loosing the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi determined to step down, but senior party leader Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari told Gandhi that the party chief is not the one to be blamed for the poll debacle. Well, then who is actually responsible for it? Rahul Gandhi’s questioning Rafael deal despite Supreme Court’s clean chit, demeaning the judiciary’s decision, false claims on Congress’s surgical strike during its tenure; all these unwanted and uncalled for allegations on BJP were not enough?

To add more to this, the Congress won in three states; Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Giving false hopes to the masses on famer waiver loan, the party won the elections just to misguide the people later as no concrete action has been taken in this regard. Most recently, the Chief Minister and Dy Chief Minister, Ashok Ghelot and Sachin Pilot respectively were blamed by a farmer in his suicide note for not fulfilling the loan waiver promise.

Being a leader and party president, Rahul Gandhi should have taken care of the needs and demands of the people. Unaware of the grassroot mess, the Congress has only worked for their benefits and not for public welfare; the clear example is right here with reigning the three states.

Congress suffered a drubbing at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. While BJP won 303 of the 543 seats, Congress could muster only 52. After 2014, this was the Congress’ second-ever worst performance. Rahul Gandhi even lost the Amethi seat, which has been a Congress bastion since 1967, to BJP leader Smriti Irani.

Members of the Youth Congress on Wednesday held a demonstration outside the Wayanad MP’s residence, urging him to take back his resignation. They shouted slogans of “Rahul Ganhi zindabad”. They are expected to meet Rahul Gandhi later this week.

Rahul Gandhi stepped down as the Congress president on May 25, two days after the Lok Sabha election results were declared. He had reportedly given the party 30 days to find a replacement. That deadline ended yesterday.
