New Delhi, June 26: After launching a stinging counter-attack on Congress in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister in his reply to motion of thanks to President’s address drew another remark at the opposition. Prime Minister Modi attacked the opposition by asserting that the party is not ready to accept their defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and cannot accept victory either. By doing this they are insulting the people’s mandate.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said that it is after long that a Government with full majority won once again with a full majority. In this mandate we see wish of the people for stability. In fact, this trend of stable governments is being seen in many states as well. Asserting a hitting remark on opposition trying to demean democracy and failing miserably, PM Modi said that it is saddening to know that some leaders say that the BJP and its allies have won the elections but the country lost and democracy lost. These statements are really unfortunate.

Responding to Congress' Ghulam Nabi Azad's 'new India' jibe, PM Modi said, "Now they are slamming New India. Do they want old India back? Old India where cabinet decisions were torn in press meets, old India where Navy was used for personal trips, old India where numerous scams existed, old India which supported tukde tukde gang?"

Congress cannot accept defeat

Swiping at Congress, PM Modi asked, “Did India lose in Wayanad? Did India lose in Rae Bareli? Did India lose in Trivandrum, what about Amethi? What kind of argument is this? If Congress loses then does that mean India lost? There is a limit to arrogance. Congress could not win a single seat in 17 states.” Striking a counter attack, PM Modi continued that the party has insulted the farmers of the country. They even continued to abuse media because of whom the opposition could not win the elections. This comes in effect after Rahul Gandhi pointed out at media alleging that the reporters asked easy questions to PM Modi and not him.

EVM questioned

Later, the Prime Minister also highlighted how the opposition question EVMs functioning and said there was a time when there were only two BJP MPs in the parliament. But during that time the party did not raise question on EVM. BJP worked hard and has won people’s trust. Speaking on ‘one nation, one poll’ PM Modi asked the opposition parties to come forward and present their views. He said that it may not become a reality but spreading negativity even before having a discussion on the matter is not right. He cited examples of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh where Assembly and general elections are held simultaneously.

Jharkhand Lynching incident

On Jharkhand lynching incident, PM Modi said that he is too pained by the killing of a youth. He said that the accused should be dealt with a firm hand. Responding to Congress leader Azad's jibe that Jharkhand has become a factory of lynching, he said, "It is wrong to blame entire Jharkhand for the lynching."

NRC Issue

On NRC issue, PM Modi said that the matter dates back to Rajiv Gandhi's government. The government stepped in at the behest of the Supreme Court's order. PM Modi said that it is not a matter of politics for his government, but it is a matter of unity and country's safety.

AES deaths in Bihar

On AES deaths in Bihar, he said that it is one of the biggest failures of the last seven decades. He said that deaths of children is a matter of shame and assured that the Central government is in regular touch with the state and providing all possible support. "The deaths in Bihar due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome are unfortunate and a matter of shame for us. We have to take this seriously. I am in constant touch with the state Govt and I am sure we will collectively come out of this crisis soon," he said.
