New Delhi, June 26: Appointing new chiefs of the country's two intelligence units, the government has named Samant Goel as the chief  of Research and Analysis Wing, while naming Arving Kumar as the Director of Intelligence Bureau.

This is after three months of Goel playing key role in India’s counter attack on the terror infrastructure in Pakistan’s Balakot. These appointments to the top posts in the external and domestic intelligence agencies were made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Goel, who was in charge of operations of the country's external intelligence agency will be replacing Anil Dhamsana whereas Arvind Kumar, the number two at the Kashmir desk of the Intelligence Bureau, will replace Rajiv Jain at the top post.

Both being IPS officers from the 1984 batch, Goel has helped handle the Punjab militancy when it was at its peak in the 1990s and was posted in Dubai and London. He was posted as in charge consular in Dubai and also in London.

On the other hand, Arvind Kumar, an officer from the Assam Meghalaya cadre, headed the agency in Bihar. Before that, he looked after its administration and inquiry branches for long. He has been involved in tackling Naxal extremism at the Intelligence Bureau and is holding charge as special director Kashmir at the IB.
